| Elgar: | The Kingdom |
|
|
On the Centenary of its first performance at Birmingham Town Hall,
Sakari Oramo conducts the last of Elgar's three great religious oratorios
composed for the Birmingham Festival. The Kingdom picks up where The Apostles
left off, and tells the story of the acts of Jesus's disciples after his
Ascension. As well as stirring choruses of great beauty and grandeur, it
also features the wonderful soprano aria 'The sun goeth down', one of Elgar's
most exquisite creations. As with with Sakari's Centenary performances of
the Dream of Gerontius and The Apostles, the City of Birmingham Choir is
delighted to be joining the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus and a line-up
of leading soloists. Tonight will surely be an important milestone in
Birmingham's cultural history.
